April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, and we are bringing to you an extremely important conversation, namely consent.
We’ve invited two brilliant guests to facilitate this session with us. Catherine, a licensed therapist, will be there the whole time and in a separate room to help manage difficult emotions or triggers which may arise through this conversation.
Tegan will help us navigate the fundamental notion of understanding and actively practicing consent.
We’ll be taking a deep dive into a discussion on consent, so join us, and let’s talk!
About the guests:
Catherine Schook is an international Counseling Psychologist based in the Netherlands. Over the past decade, she worked in counseling roles with community-based (mental) health services that served marginalized populations such as sex workers, HIV+ immigrants, those that have endured sexual assault, and folks that are homeless. Most recently in 2020, she opened a private therapy practice located in Utrecht. The practice (and business of running that practice) stand firmly on the pillars of providing accessible, negotiable and affordable services for underserved populations that are often not included in the standard psychological training programmes: queer folks, trans folks, and those in consensual non-monogamies. She is the first person at a dinner party to talk about self-pleasure. She wears too much vintage clothing with stains that cannot be explained. And she has a cuddle-to-the-max dog named Ziggy that will likely like you more than he likes Catherine.
Tegan is a South African PhD Candidate currently living in Rotterdam. With a background in international human rights law and a focus on intersectionality and the protection of LGBTIQ persons specifically, she is passionate about trying to make the world a safer place and loves discussing with others how to do so!
