Love and Leashes is a movie depicting BDSM. It is a rom-com that also deals with a man’s secret BDSM desires. Most mainstream cinema has shown BDSM as a destructive, sadistic domination while it misuses it for the elicit pleasures of a sexualized deployment of power. In past depictions, there was a stereotypical display of either a dominant (male) or passive role (female). However, BDSM is a social practice, which has been presented inaccurately due to false assumptions originating from psychoanalytic studies. BDSM play in actuality is consensual and collaborative. The basic dynamic is power dichotomy and not pain. It is about the performance of control, and loss of control.
